Those are still just isolated incidents, compared to a FAR larger set of uses that had no problem. Just search this forum for “tanked lens”. Yes, it always feels a bit risky - having to maintain internet+USB connection throughout the process gives multiple points of possible failure - but it hasn't bitten me yet in dozens of uses. I've updated several cameras and lenses multiple times over 7+ years without a problem. Your situation is unfortunate, but it's still just one occurrence, so I'd hesitate to base any decisions on it. It tanked my 75mm lens and I had to send it in for a costly repair. ![]() Unless you have an extremely specific reason to update the lens firmware, I’d avoid the Olympus lens updater like the plague.
